Why Join BESO?
We serve as a community in which we exchange knowledge and information to help eachother out. We invite many speakers to present on a variety of subjects that will help students in their journey to becoming successful bilingual teachers. We are also affiliated with the Texas Association of Bilingual Education, so when you pay your dues, you are automatically a member of TABE as well. The Bilingual Program at Texas A&M also helps us with financial costs to be able to attend the annual TABE conferences held in various cities across Texas. Also, by becoming an involved member of our organization, it increases your chances of getting outstanding letters of recommendations written for you upon graduation. Come by one of our meetings to get more information about us.
How much are dues?
Dues are $25 per year. This price includes membership into BESO and TABE. If you are just wanting to join our Spanish Conversation Groups, there are no dues. You can contact our Treasurer for more information.
When are your meetings?
We have a calendar listing all of our meeting information on our web site. Just click on the Calendar tab located on the navigation bar at the top of this page. Hope to see you at one of our meetings!
What is this I hear about a graduation sash?
Our organization is one of the few to have an officially recognized graduation sash to provide our members upon graduation, which they wear during the graduation ceremony. To earn the graduation sash, members need to earn a certain number of points by the time they graduate and have a certain GPR. To learn more about our point system, please click on the Point System tab located on the navigation bar at the top of this page. Stop by the Bilingual Office located at 100 Harrington Tower to see how the sash looks.
How can I stay updated?
Great question! Our main form of communication between members is through the LDN discussion board. To receive messages through this listserv, you will have to register. To register, please follow the steps below:
- Go to http://ldn.tamu.edu
- Click on the Discussion Board tab
- Click on Register located in the upper right-hand corner
- Fill out your information and make sure to click BESO under groups
- Click Continue Registration
- You will see a "Registration Submitted" page
- Check your email
- Follow instructions on how to activate your account provided in the email
